Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Soma?

Soma is a Greek word that can describe a body living in its wholeness, or the body one feels from within.

Who can benefit from somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy can benefit individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological, physical, and social challenges. It is particularly helpful for anxiety, depression, stress management, chronic pain, emotional regulation and self-development, to name just a few!

Do you use touch in your sessions?

Touch is used with informed consent, which can be withdrawn at any point.

What if I don't want to be touched?

You never have to be touched. Using intentional touch, where we place intention and attention of specific areas, is extremely effective.

Are sessions in person or virtual, or both?

Sessions are currently offered virtually, over Zoom.

How will I feel after a session?

People often report feeling relaxed and calm, with a greater awareness of their body. There are also people who find this work energizing and feel more awake afterwards. Others feel tired and have an early bedtime!

Sometimes people notice they feel tingly, warm or cool, or are aware of parts of their body they weren’t paying attention to before the session. This is not a comprehensive list by any stretch, and however you feel post-session, I am here to support you.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different, and as such session needs are different. Some people feel they’ve accomplished their therapy goals after as little as five sessions, some find ongoing support helpful.

What is your fee structure?

I operate on a three-tier fee structure which is dependent on an individual’s financial privilege. You can find more information about our pricing model here.

Will my extended health benefits cover the session cost?

As I am a registered social worker, your health benefits may cover sessions. Contact your benefits provider and find out if they cover registered social work.

What are your qualifications?

I have a bachelor’s degree in trauma-informed social work from the University of Victoria and will be embarking on my master’s in trauma-informed social work in Fall of 2024.

I completed my somatic experiencing training in 2022, and my transforming touch training in 2023. I completed my end-of-life doula training in February of 2023. My TRE® provider training was completed in 2016.

Will I learn tools I can use on my own to improve my life?

Yes! It is my intention and passion to give you resources and skills that you will use for the rest of your life!
